Only a year ago was missing good solutions to use VoIP and Instant Messaging on mobile phones. Today the situation has changed, there are different software for popular platforms (Symbian, Java, Windows Mobile) and Nokia VoIP support integrated in the E Series and N Series smartphones allows the use of VoIP services of the best known Italian actors ( Skype , Messagenet , stepmother, etc ...).
These software solutions are complemented by services that work with any phone with a regular phone network GSM through which the operator connects the user with the most popular VoIP networks and enables low cost international phone calls to numbers fixed line or mobile.

- VoIP client, a VoIP software that offers the real possibility to call via VoIP from the phone, using a data connection (3G, WiFi ). In some cases there are features such as presence and instant messaging.
- Callback: who initiates the call receives a call from the service provider which then puts him in contact with the final recipient.
- Gateway : who starts calling a telephone number of fixed telephony (national) provided by the operator who then put him in contact with the recipient of the call
- "Hybrid" means a software installed on your phone allows features such as instant messaging and presence. The calls are offered with or callback mode gateway. In many cases requires a data connection to allow the updating of the contact list and sending text messages.
