Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Networks

Demand for fast and dependable access to Web-based applications and
real-time delivery of multimedia transmissions via an integrated
network infrastructure drives implementation of ATM (Asynchronous
Transfer Mode) broadband solutions. ATM is a high-speed,
high-performance multiplexing and switching technology that provides
bandwidth on-demand for seamless transport of full-motion video,
audio, data, animations, and still images in local and wider area
environments.

A flexible and extendible telecommunications solution, ATM interlinks
distributed networks and heterogeneous technologies into integrated
configurations, thereby eliminating the need for multiple network
overlays. ATM interworks with diverse narrowband and broadband
wireline architectures, protocols, and technical solutions such as
SONET/SDH (Synchronous Optical Network and Synchronous Digital
Hierarchy), WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), and DWDM (Dense
WDM). ATM also interoperates with FDDI (Fiber Data Distributed
Interface), Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Frame Relay, ISDN, and IP
(Internet Protocol) and wireline and wireless residential broadband
access networks employing cable modem, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line),
and VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) solutions. In addition, ATM
works in conjunction with second-generation GSM (Global System for
Mobile Communications) and third-generation UMTS (Universal Mobile
Telecommunications Systems) cellular communications technologies.

The ATM platform enables fast access to basic and sophisticated
tele-education, telemedicine, electronic commerce (E-commerce), and
electronic government (E-government) services. ATM networks are
reliable, dependable, and scalable, and flexibly accommodate an array
of topologies, applications, and services.

PURPOSE

ATM is a complex cell multiplexing and switching technology. This
chapter provides a high-level introduction to ATM technical
attributes, features, and functions. Representative ATM
implementations that support a diverse and powerful mix of
applications are examined. Wireless ATM (WATM) configurations are
described, and the capabilities of next-generation ATM networks are
explored. Research initiatives in the ATM arena are highlighted.

ATM DEVELOPMENT

The ATM platform enables multimedia transmission via fixed-sized
53-byte packets called cells in network environments ranging from desk
area networks (DANs) to global implementations. The term
"Asynchronous" refers to ATM support of intermittent bit rates and
traffic patterns in accordance with actual demand. The phrase
"Transfer Mode" denotes ATM multiplexing capabilities in transmitting
and switching multiple types of network traffic.

Bell Labs initiated work on ATM research projects in the 1960s and
subsequently developed cell relay technology and cell switching
architecture for handling bursty transmissions. Originally, ATM was
called Asynchronous Time-Division Multiplexing (ATDM) and regarded as
a successor to TDM (Time-Division Multiplexing). As with TDM, ATDM
supports transmission of delay-sensitive and delay-insensitive
traffic. TDM and ATDM assign each fixed-sized cell or information
packet to a fixed timeslot. By contrast, ATM supports dynamic
allocation of timeslots to cells ondemand. In comparison to ATM, TDM
and ATDM protocols are limited in optimizing utilization of available
bandwidth for effectively handling volume-intensive multimedia
applications.

Removing Flash Ads In Yahoo! Messenger v8

In the Latest Version of Yahoo! Messenger (v.8), Yahoo! has taken a
page out of Microsoft's Book by placing annoying flash ads at the
bottom advertising Pc-To-Pc Calling, personally i find the ads VERY
Annoying, there is a easy way to remove the ads, here's how to do it:

Firstly, You need to know your version of YIM, To know this, simply go
to Help> About Yahoo Messenger and it will show the version installed.

Now, Make sure Yahoo! Messenger is NOT Running, not even in the
tasbkar; if you see a grey emoicon on the taskbar, right click on it
and select 'Exit'

Now Depending on your version of Yahoo! Messenger, Download one of the
.Zip Files Attached below, If you're using a messenger version which
is lower than v 8.0.0.683 then download the 'No Yahoo Ads Ver8.0.0.683
or lower' ZIP File, Similarly If you're version is 8.0.0.701 or above
Download the ZIP Named 'No Yahoo Ads Ver8.0.0.701 or above'Extract the
contents, it contains a clickable .bat file, just Double click on it
and you're done! the .bat file simply modifies
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Yahoo\pager\YUrl and replaces several
values with an Asterisk * , The Values it modifies are:

Tweaking Software Review: TuneXP

Accelerate DLL Unloading
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurr
entVersionExplorerAlwaysUnloadDLL]
"(Default)"="1"

Anytime a process is ended this will force windows to try and unload
any DLL files associated with the now closed application. This can and
probably will have a negative affect on performance if you reopen
applications not too long after closing them. If you have buttloads of
RAM, don't do this one! It Free's up used RAM that most of us really
do want.

Clearing PageFile on Shutdown
This one actually HURTS performance since it slows down your shutdown
process since it has to delete your entire pagefile which in my case
is over 1Gb! They say that it speeds your boot time up, which it
may...

Disable Paging Executive
DisablePagingExecutive registry key is set to 1 which means Drivers
and the kernel must remain in physical memory. The default is 0 which
allows this data to be cached to disk sometimes. Forcing all of this
information to stay in your RAM is a good idea, but can be bad for the
people with 128Mb of RAM.

The best source of information I have found on this can be found here.

Faster Shutdown
Wait to kills both apps and services both have been lowered to 2 1000.
This one really will help you shutdown noticeably faster most of the
time.

FIle Allocation Size
ConfigFileAllocSize was set to 512
This one proves that the writer of this application reads my guides
Unfortunately he included a tweak I had misspelled the f was supposed
to be a t.... It is Contiguous File allocation size Unfortunately a
user by the name of axmax proved me wrong on this tweak. It's ONLY a
win9x tweak MS doc for 9x. I cannot find anything about this for NT
bases OS's nor is there a default value for this key. I'm VERY sorry
about this one everybody, it's my fault that a bad tweak was included
in this app.

Optimize Prefetch
This changes the EnablePrefetcher key to a value of 3 which caches
both boot process and applications. On systems with low amounts of RAM
you will NOT want to use this tweak.

Increase NTFS Performance
NTFSDisableLastAccessUpdate is a very nice tweak to do. They could
have included NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation but I believe they decided
to leave this one out since it has caused some issues with some
software.

Howto make you own setup Boot Screen

You will hv to Edit two files to Change the SETUP WILL COMPLETE
------------------------------------------------
syssetup.dl_
WINNT32U.DLL
------------------------------------------------
Location: U.A. I386 Folder do a Search for it.
If you are too lazy, i also attach both files to the end of this post.
You can just download it.

Note: Use
Code:
Expand -R syssetup.dl_
(Follow the pretty Pictures) I suggest using ResBuild cuz its Free &
pretty! {Credit goes to Zbeta for finding this prog}

SAMPLE

When your done modifying your Winnt32u.dll & Syssetup.dll drop it into
your U.A. I386 Folder.

Note: Don't forget to use makecab to convert syssetup.dll back to dl_

* note in order for you to see the changes you will need VM. jcarle's viewer
will not show u the change.

Just in case you screw up your Syssetup.dl_ and Winnt32u.dll

Remove Shortcut Arrows In Windows XP

BEFORE EDITING THE REGISTRY ALWAYS TAKE A BACK-UP INCASE SOMETHING
GOES WRONG! To take a Registry backup, open Registry Editor Go to
File>Export and Export the whole registry, it takes around 200-250MB
Space, for good measure, try to take a back up on a external device
like, Portable HDD, Thumb Drive or CD/DVD.
-------------------------------------------------------------

By Default whenever you place an Shortcut on your desktop, for example
Shortcut to Adobe Acrobat, WinXP will place an Annoying Arrow on it's
left side, if lots of Icons are on desktops Your Desktop can look
pretty ugly

There's a Way you can remove all the shortcut arrows! here's how:

Go To Start>Run> And Type : regedit it will open the Registry Editor,
Use CTRL+F To Find the Following Keys and Delete the 'IsShortcut'
value from them.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\piffile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut

It's easier than it sounds! After Doing so, Restart Windows and Voila!
No Ugly Arrows!

NOTE: For some people, Deleting These three keys doesn't work, in that
case also delete 'IsShortcut' from the following Keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DocShortCut
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WSHFile

Official Way to Install and Use Windows Vista

default, Windows Vista can be installed, used and run without any
license, product key or the need of activation for 30 days grace
period, for purpose of trial or evaluation. Although Microsoft
initially stressed that users should purchase a license with valid
product key before the trial period expires, or else Windows Vista
will lock into Reduced Functionality Mode. However, a "rearm" method
has long since been discovered to be able to extend, or reset the
remaining time for activation to another fresh 30 days, for up to 3
times.

Now Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Vista can be used and run for
120 days or 4 months (3 rearms), and extending the activation grace
period is not a violation of the Vista End User License Agreement
(EULA). All versions of Vista include Windows Vista Ultimate allow a
30-day free period without activation, except the corporate-oriented
Vista Enterprise, which supports only a three-day trial.

To extend, reset or restart the initial OOB grace period of Windows
Vista to another 30 days, use the following steps:

1. Click on Vista Start button and key in "Cmd" (without quotes) in
Start Search box.

1. Press on Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open Command Prompt with
administrative credentials (equivalent to "Run as Administrator").
2. In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter when done:

slmgr -rearm

You can also use "sysprep /generalize" (without quotes).

4. After a few seconds, the confirmation dialog window will appear.

Reboot the computer.
Rearm again when the remaining activation grace period timer counts
down to 0 days.
Rearm option resets the computer's activation timer and reinitializes
some activation parameters.
